Synopsis: In Guatemala the systematic repression of indigenous people led to a bloody armed conflict from 1960 to1996 that left behind more than 200000 dead the majority of whom were Mayas. In an environment of fear and threats the photographer Miquel Dewever-Plana worked for years documenting the exhumation process and gathering testimonies of numerous victims that are now part of the book “The truth beneath the ground.Guatemala the silenced genocide”. Years later he returned to the Mayan communities to deliver this book to those who had shared their stories.international community and are ready to launch another guerrilla war.
Director’s Biography: Eva Vilamala (Barcelona SPAIN 09/04/1975) Holds a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona a Postgraduate Degree in Video Post Production from IDEP and a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Documentaries from the Cinema Observatory attendant at the IDFA Academy in 2010. Her personal work inthe field of video creation began with “Cosas Calladas” (2001). Her interest for documentaries arose as a result of a two-year trip around Latin America. She made her first short film “Rosal” (2005) which won the Public Award at the Barcelona Visual Sound Festival. Recently she has finished her short film “Reflexió núm1” and is working as a freelance audiovisual filmmaker. “La verdad bajo la tierra. Guatemala el genocidio silenciado” is her first full-length documentary film.
