
Megan Minnion is currently an advisor to the NATO Special Representative of the Secretary General on Women, Peace and Security, Ambassador Marriet Schuurman in Brussels, Belgium. In this role she advocates inclusive security and helps integrate the principles of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, and related resolutions, into NATO’s everyday activities. Ms. Minnion worked almost six years in Afghanistan. From 2008 to 2011, she was a political advisor for NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative focused on Provincial Reconstruction Teams, Transition (or the phased handover of security responsibility from NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to Afghan security authorities) and anti/counter corruption or Shafafiyat (Dari/Pashto for transparency). From 2011 to 2013, Megan worked as the chief advisor on the impact of Transition on Afghanistan’s security and economy for United Nations Assistance Mission to Afghanistan (UNAMA). In this capacity, she developed strategies and policy guidance to better prepare the UN system for the concurrent political, security and economic transitions underway across Afghanistan. In 2013-2014, Megan acted as project manager for an Afghan NGO, Peace Street that helped teach female and male art students to express their views on peace and reconciliation through artwork. Previous to this, Ms. Minnion served as a Public Diplomacy Officer for NATO Headquarters in Brussels (2002-2008) covering Central Asia and North America regions. From 1996-2002 she served in the Army Reserves in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Land Tactical Electronic Warfare Specialist and participated in multinational military exercises such as MARCOT 1998. Megan holds a Baccalaureate of Arts in Sociology from Queen’s University and a Masters in Business Administration from the Royal Military College of Canada. Megan and her partner Jeff Holden have a baby boy Gabriel Holden-Minnion.
