THE FESTIVAL
“Moving forward towards lasting change”
Afghanistan Human rights Film Festival is an international festival that highlights Human Rights issues in Afghanistan and in the region. This festival, now in its third year, has become Afghanistan's most established platform to showcase an extraordinary selection of national and international films, aimed at highlighting social justice issues. From deep-seated discrimination to the strength of the human spirit, the themes of the films presented in the festival express a broad range of ideas that empower our audience to reflect on the challenges and glory of what is to be human in our days and age.
Afghanistan Human Rights Film Festival (AHRFF) aims to use the power of filmmaking and storytelling to promote human rights values by raising awareness among the public at large and by supporting the work and voice of artists and human rights activists not only from Afghanistan but also from all over the world. AHRFF gives a voice to the voiceless and mostly provides a platform for emerging Afghan filmmakers to address human rights issues in their films, exchange ideas about struggles that are happening around the globe throughout the eyes of international films and showcasing their films to the Afghan audience in their original language and with Dari subtitles. This is also indeed one of the best platforms that exist in the country, where the young and emerging generation of Afghan filmmakers can show their work freely, to share and learn new ideas, and explore what other filmmakers from around the world are doing. It is truly testament to the talent and creativity of so many artists, their desire for social justice and the promotion of human rights.
The AHRFF is a festival that shares the works of filmmakers and artists whom have unfortunately been marginalized by their governmental authorities. It present stories of lives affected by war, discrimination and injustice. The stories are of people who have resisted oppression and fought against violence to create a more humane world.
Afghanistan Cinema Club and Bassa Films are organizing the festival in partnership with various national and international organizations. It aims to be a hub for filmmakers and artists working despite of facing censoring in their countries and whose works are restricted from public screenings.

HONORARY BOARD MEMBERS
AHRFF would not be possible without our generous sponsors. Our Board of Advisors, staff and hundreds of volunteers continue to provide a strong groundwork for our organization and for deep-rooted change. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the many dedicated people who have shared their time and talent with our festival. We especially want to welcome our guests and jury from around the world and to thank the distributors who have made films available to us. But mostly, we would like to thank all the filmmakers, especially the Afghan filmmakers, who despite the insecurity situation continue to share their stories while promoting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to create new art forms to document human life and advocate for a better world. They are truly the essence and spirit of our festival.
